What have you had that worked?

well i think my situation is one of the rare ones that work but i have a 14 inch jag in with a 12-13 inch buttikoferi and a 9-10 inch festae as well as a trimac x red bay snook and 3 ornate bichirs and 2 endil bichirs with a 13 inch stingray.
i grew my fish out in a 125 and kept the ones that were not killers or panzys so it worked out for me. there all in a 180 right now and have been for several years. i dont think you should try this unless you went through the long period i did to see what worked. there are several fish you can keep with a jag. just do a search and you will see what some people keep with theres. if it were me and i had a 125 then id go with a female festae or a texas jack dempsey. it all depends what you want. you tell us what you want to add and we can say whether we think it will work or not.

A large texas or green terror, vieja, and midas. With a pleco, and several dithers?

i personally think that would be fine but you never know with ca cichlids. but i would not go with the midas. midas might work for ya but there one of those touchy fish that will want everything dead in the tank but themselves.

if it were me id go with a gt and one veja. no dithers unless you need them. thats just me though. actually i take that back. gt and texas seeing the only veja i like is the argentae

you could try convicts first. they could also serve as dithers if you like that idea. All of the other suggestions have been good as well as far as tankmates.

I would give it a shot. If any fish not intimidating, I think should be fine with hiding places..

It is pretty boring with just one fish..

I DISAGREE =D

just gotta have a wicked nasty glass bang.
who lets you rub his nuchal hump and eats everything!

i love my single specimen tank.
it's a 125 gallon with a 12" citrinellus for your info on your question bra.
i don't think you should add anything unless your gonna add some gallons to the mix.

if you had like 75 gallons you can pretty much add any cichlid you want, but i'd add more than one.

jag, citrinellus, texas, another jag, dithers, what ever.
pick ya poison.

i like my single specimen tank much more than when i had a community 120 gallon, that was back when my fish were all under 8" though.

if you doo add more cichlids and dithers, make sure you up your water changes and feedings!

btw, that's a very good question!
