Hey everyone, my female Reticulated python seems unable to shed. She has shed but the entire shedding is still attached to her, I left her to see if she would manage herself, she ate while like this and then she went through shedding again, she now has 2 layers of shedding on her, I've tried to pick it off her with my hands but this annoys her. Anyone any ideas? I have raised the humidity for her to around 60% and being sprayed, given warm baths and doesn't seem to help. Any ideas are appreciated.

Cheers,
Keith

Sounds like your humidity was way too low; try bumping it up to 70-80% until you get the shed off.

You also need to give it a warm bath in an enclosed container that also contains something rough for it to rub against & use to get out of the water. Leave her in there for an hour or two, then pull her out and try to massage the skin off with a soft washcloth or towel; don't pick at it because it might harm the snake as well as make it mad.

Humidity is WAY to low, it should be 80% always, not just when she's shedding... Two layers of shed definitely need to get that off, soak her for a good 30-45 minutes and try to get the skin off. The evaluate everything else. you didn't say over how long this was, shedding twice within a few months might be completely normal, especially for a young retic, or if it was in a few days/weeks it would mean there is another problem going on

I would place her in a damp burlap sack overnight and let her rub it off herself. It almost always work.

I agree with snakeguy, I always use pillow cases and get great results. i will often leave them in the bag for several hours at a time.

im with the raise humidity! doesn't sound like this is a one time event if its second shed and same problem... raise the humidity give some lava rocks to rub it off on...
