Hi,
I have a 3year old male retic. He is ~11.5 inches in diameter. He had been eating 11 nightcrawlers a day. Recently dropped to around 7; now not really eating. Checked the water: Ammonia: 0, Nitrites: 0, Nitrates ~40(time for weekly water change), PH is around 7.5. The only recent change( 6weeks ago) was I'm using a UV sterilizer about 20 hours a week(it keeps the water very clear). Any ideas why the change in appetite?

Three things come to my mind, but I have little experience. How is his size to tank size ratio? Is the width at least twice his disc diameter? Next, I've heard that a varied diet plays a part in a rays health. Perhaps if you try some live black worms to get him exited about eating, and then try shrimp just to keep it varied. My last thought would be an internal parasite (I don't even know if night crawlers can pass those, but many appetites have been fixed after medicating for IPs.

I'm still a bit of a newbie with rays. I've only been keeping then since September, so I'm still learning lots. My Retic stopped eating a couple of months ago, and got really thin. Nothing else in the tank changed, and the other rays were fine. Someone suggested it may be a parasite, so I tried prazi pro, and it worked amazing. He started eating again right away.

Thanks for the info. I am treating him for a parasite. I thought he was doing okay. I'll be taking a fecal sample in this week to my vet and see if can figure a better treatment. He did eat a worm today.

I had his feces checked and no parasites. Trying Prazi, rasied the temp to 83 then 84, and just added some salt. Hasn't eaten much this week but is still active. Going to check with my vet and see aht else could be prescribed.

Hi,
Just an update on my ray. I took my ray to my vet and he found what looked to be an internal infection. He provided some injectible medcine. I have given him 2 of 3. After the first one he started to eat again. Hoping this keeps up and he has beaten his problem.
