I have had my ray for almost 3months he is doing well, my family is pushing my to get him a girlfriend. My question is how long could a male and female life in a 125g before I would need to up grade, I plan on getting a 400-500g tank some day but it will be a few years

125g tanks are typically 72"x18". are these your dimensions? if so 18" is going to be a bit tight when they're adult size but that could take a couple yrs depending on water quality and feeding habits.

Yea that's the tank size water has been prefect since jan 0,0 less 30 with 50% water changes every other week I am feeding a half nightcrawler twice a day still trying to finger out how much food he need

Im a beleiver of feeding young retics a lot because i find they metabilize their food very fast. Ive got 2x4"-5" retics and they each eat at least 2 large earthworms a day and even some tilapia.

Retics are a challenge to get onto new foods. It comes with patience. Sometimes you need to starve them a bit which i don't like doing for more than a couple of days. Keep offering new foods and remove it if its not eaten after a while. Eventually they tend to nibble or even eat new foods.

a 120 wide or a 180 w/ a 2' footprint if its just the rays in the tank imo could last a few years... just remember the females get bigger then the males. my female got 12" disk by 2yrs and touched nose to tail-tip in our 120 before moving them into our pool. I also "free fed" my guys as much as they would eat every night and bought 1/4lb of blackworms once a week to graze on as they pleased.
