My Retic hasn't eaten since last Tuesday when is 9 days now shes getting very skinny. I've tried blackworms, shrimp, live bloodworms, cannot get night crawlers from the store i used to they've been closed since the hurricane. Ph is 7.4 and all other levels are at 0. I know they can sometimes go on hunger strikes but I'm not sure how many more days she can go without eating. When i offer blackworms she will either continue to blow into the sand searching for something different of just bury herself.

Your nitrates are 0? Mine are never zero. Water quality is usually the case. What's your temp?

What was it eating before? Go to Walmart or sporting good store and buy some worms, cut them small, if that is what it was eating before. also check tap water tank water, filter cleaning, probably do a water change if all water looks good, look for any issues that can be seen.

I tried but the problem is I'm in NYC and the only place similar to that is sports authority and when I called he said they don't carry worms just artificial bait. Did a 50% change yesterday all levels are still good. I'm still offering blackworms twice a day with my fingers crossed that she might eat them. Stopping at the store on my way back from work with the hope that shell eat tilapia.

Try a convenience store located near the water. They might carry live bait in a cooler. That's the only place I can find earthworms here.

Hi,
I have a male retic. He is 12 inches in diameter. He went hrough a round of not eating. I had good water parameters. By accident I didn't do a weekly water change and noticed he started eating. I started reducing the amount of water I was changing to between 25-33% weekly. This helped. I noticed that in my case he is sensative to PH and PH change. I had my PH droping and adde crushed coral to stabalize. This helped keep the PH at 7.4 or so. I checked my tap water over time and when I added the de=chlor it was in the same range of 7.4(i let a glass sit for a couple dys).
This past few week he has been tempermental in eating despite my new routine. However, he is returning to eating more.

You might check what your tap water PH is eventually reading and try a liitle lees % of water change.

I will try to not do a change for as long as I can while keeping an eye on the levels so they don't creep up and get bad. Hopefully this helps thanks for your input. Also how long did he go without eating this Tuesday will be 2 weeks for my female I'm getting worried she cant go too much longer.
