I picked up a new fish that was labeled as an African Arowana. I tried to do some research on it and realized that its not an African Arowana. It has the head of a African Arowana but the body of a Clown Knife with light brown markings similar to a Royal Clown Knife. I came across a picture of a Reticulate Knife Fish and that's exactly what it looks like. Does anyone here on this site have any experience with one of these unique fish? Are they rare? I've read that they can grow to 32" and become rather aggressive with age. I have an 12-13" BGK, will i have problems housing it with my new Knife Fish? My Reticulate is only 4" now. My BGK seems to have grown an inch and thicker since moving him into my 430 gal aquarium in December of 2012. What do you all think? Will my 430 gal be enough for both?

Sounds like you have a papirocranus afer which is sometimes called a Arowana knife fish and does come from Africa. The afer does become aggressive with age but I keep mine well fed and your tank may be big enough where the two knives might get along. I have never kept a BGK.

Thanx. It'll be awaile till I find out. He's not big enough to roll with the big boys yet. I don't think he'd be able to compete with my two achara catfishs during feeding time. He's growing out in a 55 gal till he's about 12". Bgk has become more aggressive since hitting the 12" mark also. We'll see. If it don't work out, i'll build another aquarium same size & house him with my eels.

....or you can send him to me.

I have a 15" or so beast, I sold one that was about 18". they get mean and kill weaker fish (at night). 125G good- but bigger is better.

Cool find! Mine liked earthworms at that age, and blood worms.

My lfs said they'd only brought this fish in one time before. I've never seen or heard of this fish before now. I can't wait till he's big enough to roll with the big boys in my 430 gal. He eats alot of hikari frozen krill. Haven't seen him eat dry yet, but my arowana was like that in the beginning till he got bigger. I don't have a good camera but i'll try and get a decent picture with my phone.

Mine 'sniffed' at Massivores, but never took to them much, likes meaty foods, tilapia filet and frozen shrimp are its favorites...

FYI mine is FS in the classifieds, but I am not shipping him. ;-) I also know where a shop has 3 of them (MUCH smaller than mine though!) last I checked, local place in Burien WA.
