me and my buddy bought 2 reticulated rays and we have had them for about 5-6 weeks now and mine wont eat anything but bloodworms but he loves them and eats alot of them. my buddys wont eat anything but earthworms so is what i am trying to say is i have heard reticulated rays are hard to keep and are a death sentence so what do u think our chances are the way they are eating like pigs and are pretty active.

retics aren't "death sentences" at all....i think what people mean is that the majority are already compromised by the time they get to the consumer's hands. you got yourselves some good ones, so as long as your water is kept pristine and they're kept nice and fat, you should have great time with them.

well this is the most pristine i can keep my water. i have a 220 gallon with a silver arrow/2 gars/tarpon/pbass/1 clown knife and 1 royal clown knife and a gold line knife and of course the ray. most are all over 12 inches except for the ray and i feed them alot. i have 3 aquaclear 110s on it and do 30 percent water change about every 10 days. the nitrates are usually right in the middle on the test strip. do u think that water quality is good enough or am i going to have to resort to water changes every 6-7days? thx for all the info

try to keep your nitrates 20ppm or lower. if your amonia and nitrite are 0 you have sufficient filtration.

If I was in your shoes i would definately do more water changes. I do a 40-50% water change about every 2 or 3 days

I have the same problem though. My ray only seems to like bloodworms and I cant get any meat on his bones. I've had him for a month, he hasnt got any skinnier but I want to fatten him up. How can I get it on other foods?

3 aqua clears on a 220, with all those fish, wow. i alway thought aqua clears were pieces of !@#$

check you water conditions more often now that you have a ray, they poop a lot! yea i'd also change water 2x a week

u really dont like the aquaclears huh? ive always liked them, they pump alot of water and if u go buy what it says then 3 should be good for 330 gallons (stretching it). i like the hang ons cause i dont want to have to worry about a hose or pipe breaking under the stand then i would be in a world of hurt. i can do the 50 percent water changes every 3 days for the winter and spring months but im not going to in the summer cause i have a well. so after hearing what u guys have to say my theory is to see if he can tolerate it the way it is now cause if i go ahead and do all these water changes now and keep the water superclean then in the summer when i cant do them as often my nitrates will spike up and deffintly kill him. i guess ill just have to do what im doing and hope for the best. but thx for all the help guys.:)

btw rallysman have u tried small earthworms? like i said my buddys ray loves them and im sure theres alot more nutrition in those then there is in bloodworms.
