To start off these will be my first rays, I am in the process of building a plywood tank 80"x24"x14".
I know these don't grow very large and am wondering if a 14" height is enough. I will also have 2 Asian upside down catfish in the tank, will this be a problem?
I will be getting these at 4" diameter, how fast do they grow?
Any I other info will be appreciated

Retics have been known to max out around 18" in captivity so really you should be looking at something closer to 36" wide ( 2x disc width), theyre one of the slower growing rays but also one of the more difficult to keep, none of them are easy or cheap but for instance the motoro rays are a heartier species. Also you will need a VERY high volume filtration system (10x tank capacity min.), and dont forget an endless food supply lol my group of 4 go through a couple hundred feeder fish and 2 dozen nightcrawlers daily and they are all still technically juveniles, also the more air you can pump in the better healthy rays are very active and need alot of oxygen (they also like to play in bubbles) . ..........now dont get me wrong when you get it right they are beautiful, amazing and entertaining creatures. I can watch mine for hours! Hopefully this is of some help and best of luck of course we expect pictures as well

Largest retic I have seen in person is 13+ inches. 24inches front to back probably will work but if you can I would say make it 30inches so you have lots of room for added fish and what. As we all know we start with a plan for a couple fish and always add far more. As for height of the tank I would recommend shooting for 20inches of water.
