This afternoon I headed off to my not-so-local Big Al's in search of info about the reticulated stingray. The man who knew most about the stingrays (All his colleagues directed my questions to him) said that 3 full grown rets could live happily in a 55 gallon tank. He said a 4 X 2 ft breeder tank would be plenty of space. I personally feel like that is overcrowded but is it? I was planning on getting a 5.5 x 2.5 x 3 ft tank (I know height doesn't really matter in this situation)
If the tank ( 5.5 x 2.5 x 3 ft) can house 1-2 ret. stingray(s), what substrate, driftwood (I know it should be very little too none on the bottom but I was thinking of floating driftwood) and most importantly tank mates (if any)

I wish to keep the stingrays as happy as possible. if the tank dimesions are not adequate for a ret., any suggestions for better dimensions would be greatly appreciated ;)

Wow:duh:

Never a good idea to take advise from someone who is trying to take your money.

No offense, but if that pet smart guy was correct, i'd already have at least 4 rays by now...

So in short, no do not listen to him...

Yea, I was pretty sure 3 rays in a 55 gallon would be overstocking and then some. How about that 6 by 2.5 ft tank? Would that be good to suit one ret. ray?

There was one guy who was really good about telling me what fish were healthy and which ones would live happily in my tank. he quit Big Als and set up a fish store down the street. He had bamboo sharks, rare corals, every monster fish you could think of. He was a great guy who genuinely cared for each of the fish he kept and sold. Then some guy came and poured bleach into the main filtration system. It killed everything. here is the story if you want to read up on it

Retics can onlyh live in a 55 for a very short time and only when they are pups. 3 retics would be fine in a 180 gallon tank or p ond of some sort. If you have good filtration and or a good drip in drip out

The tank is 250 gallons and what I am worried about is the footprint. It is 5.5 by 3 good or is it not wide enough for the stingray to be happy
