Gorgeous old adults. How old are they anyway? Usually people say a fish is old, but it still looks to be in their prime. These two definitely are OLD! And kudos to you for dedicating yourself to them.

I have had them probably going on 6 years I guess. They are such amazing fish. They lived fine together for all but the last six months or so when the old man said he'd had enough and told me if I didn't take her out he would. They can still see each other but he has no interest in being locked in a box with her.

WOw That is awesome!!

I have not heard of many successful breeders of these fish :) That's not saying much as I have not met online or offline more than 50 keepers of pairs of these Sp. :) But Aweseom man!!!

I have one male and two female young ones ( about 2" ) to start the proccess all over again. The male was a sight to see in his prime man. This is the pair a year or so ago when they still got along. Cool story about the female... When I got them I was working at a LFS and we got 5 in "special order". I had read about them but never seen one. At dime size they didn't seem very impresive. After they were there a couple weeks and no one was buying them I started to see their colors emerging and they caught my interest. I decided I wanted a pair and watched them daily to best pick which was male and such. One day, the day I bought them coincidently, I watched one of the non dominant males attack and suck the right eye ball out of the females face. He didn't get it all though so in a moment of panick I pulled her out and laid her on a towel. Remember that they were truely fry still maybe an inch or so. I realized that I couldn't fix her dangling eye so I cut off what was hanging and took her home. Ok well maybe not a cool story but a story nun the less.

Glad to see them go to a good home!

Really interesting fish. I have a young pair -- no spawn yet. They can act very tender toward one another, but then the male just can't help himself, and starts nipping at her till she retreats to the other side of the divider.
