Hi.

I bought a couple of R.xinguensis over a year ago, in Germany. They spawned three times in a row (a while ago), and i have succeeded in raising a group. They are now about 5-10 cm.

I want to avoid inbreeding the next generation,- So does anyone here know where i can get more of them? Are they currently available from Brazil? - Seen them on any lists?

They are very hard fish to come by here in the States. I'd try getting them from your same source in Germany if you can afford the trip. I would love to see more pics if you have them!!

This couple was the only xinguensis he had...

Here are two pictures of the female guarding the eggs in the main tank - one of the artificial nest i made - and one of the fry, a few weeks old.

Under the courtship they look even more stunning than after they spawn, but unfortunately i dont have any pictures from that stage.

Retroclus are really rare because they are hard to keep alive from what I have heard. On the other side, there are so many cichlid maniacs in Germany, Switzerland and Austria that I can't believe that you can only get them from one source. I'll PM you with some ideas.

congrats on keeping and breeding one of the most sought after eartheaters in the US

ps- What species of guianacara is that in the background?

They are stunning! I am so jealous.. I hope any species from this genus becomes available in the US some day soon. Good luck on your search and thank you for posting these pics. Any detailed information on the spawning behavior, do's, don't etc..? I am sure I am not the only wanting to hear an experienced opinion.
