I was at my lfs yesterday picking up some food...........looked in the pacu tank and there was a retropinnis in there.......i knew it was a bichir just didn't know what kind.......went home and did some research and it is definetly a retropinnis.........question is could it be compatible with a green texas cichlid? the bichir is about 4-5 inches and the cichlid is about 3-5........was wondering cuz i've been really wanting a bichir.........any feedback would be great..............

I think most Bichirs are tough enough for cichlids, but I defer to cichlid experts.

have good hiding spots and how much for the retropinnus, bichir at bottom and texas should be middle to top.

bichers are pretty fast but overly aggressive and stubborn chiclids can still manage to do major damage or even kill the bichers.

depends on individual fish temprement but texas cichlids have a tendency to be nasty so its a hit and miss with them and bichirs.. i have an argentea with an endlicheri but i have a hiding spot for the bichir that the argentea cannot reach so it works out well :)

thanks for the help everyone..........my cichlid is somewhat agressive but not as much as others i have seen/had.........if i do end up getting the bichir i'll make sure it has enough places to hide and steer clear of the cichlid.............plus ill watch if theres any agression and if there is i have a backup tank.......but thanks for the help everyone!!

man i want a pic of that retro!!! :headbang2

Sorry I meant to toss my 5 cents in but got sidetracked. Many species are mislabeled in stores P.retropinnis especially seem to be.I have seen several P.palmas pollis being sold as
P.retropinnis so be careful-Anne
