For a while now I've been going to Miami trying to catch peacocks on top water lures.
Today, by chance, I looked at the canal that runs along the parking lot at my job and saw this!
I had a very good five minute look at him, but the photos all suck. There was also a bright orange Red Devil nearby.
I am WELL inside of Broward County and it looks like they're back!!
Such great news.
I'll try for some better photos...

Forgot ur photo.

It took a minute...

Nice bass find. Don't find any in central Florida where I'm at. Maybe I'm not looking enough.

I might be wrong, but it seems like we could eventually wind up with a cold tolerant strain.
Like what seems to have happened with some iguana poulations.

I don't know if they've ever been found much north of Broward.
Water temps near 60 kill them off.
That's why they were released as a game fish

I never had luck with top water fishing for them. Most artificial is pretty hard with those pbass that are close to roads. Live is the best way to go.

I've always thought of shiners as cheating.
A mental thing.
Rattle traps and jitterbugs are what I use.
Although you will also get a large mouth or a snake head as well.
