I came home to a big puddle and a leaky 110g this evening. I spent the last 4 hours setting up an old 35g hex, cleaning up all the water and transferring everything over. It has been a long time since I have had to chase those guys with a net, I forgot how fast they were! I now probably have the most over filtered 35 hex ever! (Yeah that is a challenge, show me what you got!)

So there I was pumping the remaining water out of the 110g staring at all this Pothos that have been keeping my fish company. There really was not any room for them in the 35 and I didn't really want to throw them away. So while I was waiting for the water to drain I grabbed several pots and tossed the Pothos into them. I had some fresh miracle grow potting soil I covered the 3 to 6 foot long roots with. I wonder if they will grow or die? I have 4 other Pothos parent plants that I have had for years... way longer than I have ever thought about putting them in an aquarium. So I am not really Pothos starved... but it seemed like a waste to just toss them into the garbage. Has anyone ever returned their aquarium Pothos to dirt? Did they survive.

The 35g now has a 5" Frontosa, 4.5" parrot, 4" Tiger cichlid, 3.5" hybrid cichlid, 3" blue neon cichlid, 5" leopard catfish and a 3" chinese algea eater. I moved the sump so they should be getting plenty of oxygen and my big DE pool filter. I did move over some of the rock so they will have a place to hide. I hope they will be alright for a few days.

There is a 150g on Craigslist a couple hours away. I don't know if I will be able to get off work to make the trip before the weekend though.

When ever I transplant plants from water to soil I never use a soil medium that has any fertilizers in it. Just a base soil with good root aeration and drainage. Let them get established in a fertilizer free soil and either suplement fertilizer or trans plant them into a fert based soil like miracle grow. Sometimes you can have problems with burning the roots if they are not use to higher levels of ferts and compile that with being compacted into dirt. Soooo its hit or miss. Ive had plants do great after a transplant like that and I have really pissed them off.

Worth a try, water them with fish tank water, it will help them feel like home a bit and it's always good for them anyhow.
