Returning Stealth Heater, what to get instead?!?

With the Petsmart courtesy recall, I have about 4 or 5 heaters I can bring back to Petsmart to swap out.

Assuming they won't let me use the credit to order online.

What's a good heater I should exchanged them for?

I've heard mixed reviews on the Fluval edge and Eheim Jagers.

Some were saying that they were given the Marineland Visitherm too.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a BIG fan of the Fluval E-series heaters. I think these are some of the best out there. They are microprocessor controlled, so you have less chance of a failure and overheat situation. They have a digital temp readout and a colored LED back light. I personally use a dozen or so of these heaters on my tanks.

I just replaced all my marineland heaters with Ehiem Jagers. Heard alot of good things about these.

Hmm I gotta see what they have to offer. Guess I'll have to do it on a day off. Don't wanna go now and get a bad heater and freeze them over night...

I've read good and bad for both of them.

Thanks! But unfortunately, the titanium one you mentioned is not available at Petsmart, not even online.

Choices are Fluval M-series, Ehiem Jager, and Aqueon "shatter proof".

I read that the Aqueon "shatter proof" is bascially made by the same company as the Marine Land Stealth heaters... hmmmm...

So it's really just between the Jager and M-series?

Any more suggestions?

I didn't say it was avialable at Petsmart. If you read that thread I even have a direct link to who has it for sale. Out of what Petsmart had I didn't like any of it so I opted for cash back... no box, no receipt and after a manager did an override this was no problem. I ordered the Titanium heater and when it arrived I put it in the tank and took the Pro Stealth out and into Petsmart. That's how I handled it but you're welcome to do whatever you like.

I came across that thread before you mentioned it. But I didn't see your post till you pointed it out. So thanks for pointing that out.

My point was that my local Petsmart are unwilling to give cash back. So it's only store credit. So I can't get the titanium you posted. That's why I asked specifically about Petsmart Heaters in my first post.

I went to a LFS (not Petco/Petsmart) and they actually were selling the one you pointed out. My friend who also works there told me that those were good with the external thermostat controller thing. But his quit on him after 2 years.

He also told me that the stealth heater I had were really not part of the recall (the ones with the red knob instead of the light). He said the ones with the problem was the newer ones with the light.

I told them I found from another forum that the Aqueon shatterproof is made by the same "factory" sort of speak and was trying to stay from them. But he told me the Aqueon Shatterproofs are fine because they bought the patent off Marineland for the first generation stealth heater and made their own. (First gen being the red knob ones)

So Marineland is trying to buy that patent back right now. So since I am running external thermostats, I got three Aqueon Shatterproofs... and basically hoping for the best. Had 7 bucks back too...
