So after a year and a half or so of only owning piranhas, I bought a cichlid. I bought a 4-5 inch male red devil/midas and I have him in my 120 gallon tall (5 feet by 1.5 feet).

I was wondering what tankmates I should put with him. I was thinking of maybe getting a female RD/midas for him or maybe even trying out a large blood parrot.

My second idea was to get a few cichlids to spread aggression such a jag, texas, GT. Hoping aggression would be okay with ~4 fish total.

Just wondering if you guys have any ideas or input or anything that has worked in the past.

Oh and BTW still got my rhombeus (not fully to the dark side yet)

The bloodparrot is a no go. Eventually the midas would rip it apart. You could add other cichlids for the short term but in the long run a 120 is not large enough to keep a full grown midas with three fully grown tankmates. It would likely decay into a bloodbath with the midas and jag battling for the crown. The green terror would be in immediate danger from the start. Although they can be aggressive, I have always thought that their name is a misnomer. In terms of physical capability they are not on the level of the other fish that you mentioned. Personally speaking I have always thought of them as semi-aggressive fish.

I think that introducing a female midas would be your best bet.

If you were to get rid of the midas then I think you could have a community of green terrors, texas cichlids, jack dempseys, and other fish that are in the mid to lower range of aggression.

A fully grown male midas could easily control that tank and become aggressive enough to kill everything in it. It will only be a matter of time before he starts trying to attack you.

Well said, I agree.
