Awhile back I picked up a Marineland 10 gallon kit with the LED light on sale for $35. I bought it for a quarantine tank, so I really didn't need the LED light much but I thought I would check it out since it was $5 more than an Aquaculture from Walmart without LED.
So I use the 10 gallon for a QT, the lid clips on nicely to keep fish in, and the LED light just lays on top of the lid in a molded tray with clear plastic on the bottom to shine light into the tank. Kind of nice I thought until I plugged it in. That LED light is BRIGHT!! So I scratch the idea of using it in a QT tank and take it off.
That brings us to today, when I went through everything and was packing up unused items. I pulled the light out and thought, why not try it on the 125g just to see how it looks. I built a narrow canopy awhile back about 6 inches tall and hung a 4 foot shop light inside to light the 125 before. So pull it off, take out the shop light and double-stick tape (it's that lightweight) the LED to the top of the canopy in the middle and turn it on. That little light, made for a 10 gallon, lights up the 125 a bit brighter than my 4 foot, 20w light did. The color is cleaner, whiter, and the LED don't have lens on them so there's hardly any beam lines either in the water. It does have less light on the ends, I like it like that personally, but if you didn't, two of these lights would be plenty to fix it.
So, I thought after doing this others might like the idea as well, if you bought two for a 125 it would look completely lit up, as it is, I like it. If you need a QT tank this is a nice way to get the extra benefit.
I am redoing the 125 - that's why it's bare in the photos. The gravel is a small grain 2-4mm mix of grey vrowns, and white, the LED light is still almost washing out the color of the gravel in the middle!
BTW - the two little dots of light at each end of the tank are my single LED moonlights, they were on in the photos (oops). Also the glass is dirty on the back of the tank not the front (I guess I have to get back there and clean it).
