I'm super nervous I decided to try Reusing purigen I would usually jus buy more but it's expensive after a while.. I'm nervous because you use bleach for the regeneration process and bleach Is a big no no..I soaked it in prime afterwards for a day than soaked it in water for like 2 days haha I hope I did everything right because I put it back in my sump and my beautiful tigrinus catfish is in the tank haha.

He is 12 inches.. blue checks and his streamers are really long never been touched by any other fish. Haha month old pic because he hiding right now to much light

Provided you soaked it for a good long time in a nice Prime + Water mixture, you should be fine. Also, as I'm sure you know, don't let the Purigen dry out in between uses and recharging.

I used pure bleach to clean my Purigen for YEARS I don't have any issue nor my fish having issue with it, you just have an extra bag of Purigen to use while you're cleaning the dirty one. After I clean it in bleach I put it in RO water with prime for few days (I change the water daily) and let it dry ready for next swap in.

I didn't know that but I didn't let it dry out so I got lucky haha now I know

I would never reuse purigen, my largest tank is only a 120 though so I think it's only like $9 to replace the purigen every couple months. If I had a large amount I used I'd probably think about reusing it but it's a lot of effort and I don't trust using bleach on anything

Well all together in got 400 gallons with my tank and sump but trust me I don't the bleach either I would of felt better if it was vinegar haha

It's not going to render it completely useless, but the beads do have the potential to dry out and crack. I usually have two bags, when I take one out, the other goes in. Then recharge and repeat.

I was hesitant at first too, but a nice long soak in Prime, followed by a thorough rinsing should eliminate any bleach. I always use excessive amounts of Prime just to make sure.

However, if you're looking for a comparable product to Purigen that can be reused and regenerated without bleach, I'd look into Brightwell Aquatics' NitratR.
