I dont think bichirs need it, bichirs are really hardy fish, but some ppl might use it. Just dont know if it has any benefit to bichirs.
Nope. Well water, near liquid rock levels.
Never owned a r/o system just water from tap 7.4- 7.8 PH range.
Just Tap, think you’d only really need RO if your PH was ridiculously high on its own at 8+ or if you wanted to do saltwater or a speciality like blackwater.
Good to know, thanks everyone. I don't use RO water for my 20 gallon small fish community tank, and they are fine. But I am setting up my large aquarium for a bichir. I previously had a tame rope fish years ago, and I want another polypterus again. And I wasn't sure if bichirs were a type of fish like discus which needed RO.
From what I've seen no. I have 10 bichirs 14 ropefish in my water all are healthy and growing fine.
