I have a 75 gal. ciclid tank. It has a corner overflow going to a wet/dry. I have a 1400 gph pump on it. I just put a drip set-up that drips 1gal p/hr. Im trying to cut down on the amount of time I have to spend on keeping the tank up. I was thinking of putting a undergravel filter and running it it reverse to push all the crap up so it will go through the filtration set/up. I was looking to see if there was a power head with alot of power in reverse. The most I found was 175gph. I dont think this would be enough. Has anyone done this with an undergravel filter? Should I put it on a timer or have it run all the time? Can anyone reccomend a power head to use, or would I be better off using another small pump from the wet/dry and plum it up to the undergravel filter? I know Im still going to have to clean the tank, but I want to do whatever I can to keep the tank as clean as possible. Any suggestions???

There is a thread on here where someone used the returns from the sump to power a diy rugf.

Using the return from your normal filter will reduce the flow in the system, so I wouldn't do that. A normal submersible pump with the OUTLET plumbed into the UG system is the way to go. Leave it running all the time, it will provide usefull backup filtering and water circulation as well as moving the crud from the gravel.

Are you going to use a power head or a regular pump? Let me kn ow how youy like it with the pvc pipes. I wasnt sure what would work better the pvc or an undergravel filter? I want to find the best way to do it so Im not taking everything out of the tank more then once. Im thinking of using an old pump that I have. I think its around 600 gph. The only problem is I dont think my overflow will drain that much water that fast. I would be close to 200gph then. I probaly will end up having to put one of those hang on overflows on the tank, or I could put a T on the water return line with 2 valves on it. I just want as much filtration as possible. Let me know how yours works out, and it would be great if you could post some pics. Thanks.........
