Presently I have multiple old filters working on my tank, eventually when Godzilla gets bigger and is moved to a larger tank I'll get an adequate canister filter. In mean time the sum of what I have is covering things pretty well, though recently my Marineland Emperor 200's spray bar to its water wheel clogged. I already had API Biochem Stars in a clam shell insert in that filter so I removed the spray bar entirely and plugged it so all the water would route through the polycotton, bistars and then through the wheel. Low and behold it turns the wheel anyway so guess my 20 year old Emperor still maintains purpose in my tank.

Add 50 percent water changes every week to the mix and you can save the money you were going to spend on the canister and get Godzilla a lady friend.

I've always done 50% water changes weekly but you still need biological filtration. Jade gobies are dirty fish, for 2 jade gobies I'd need a 200 gallon tank and they're fairly solitary.

think I would break for a couple ac110,s or at least one. did you try soaking the spray bar in vinegar?

I do not find this to be true, with the water flowing over and turning a large media area with excellent access to oxygen its a good bio filter. a hell of allot better than just the floss alone.

The water still flows over the bio wheel and makes it turn without the spray bar and now all of the water also passes through floss and bio chem stars as well.

well if the wheels are turning with water then I stand corrected.

Yes the way I redirected the water it does. Not all of the Marineland HOBs with bio wheels even have the spray bars. They're good for oxygenating the water but the waterfalls themselves do that too.

agreed, the thing with the bio wheels is the water is poring over live bio media and also subject to large amount of oxygen, like a wet dry sump.
