Just bought and installed new Eheim 300 watt heater in my Oscar's tank due to the old one having exploaded. He's fine and tank is ok, but he's really upset about the new heater. Attacks it. Do I need to get a guard for it and if so where can I find one that would fit this 20"re.

Drill some 1" pcv with lots of holes and stick it in. Some hardware stores actually sell 2' cut pieces. You could then paint it if you wanted to.
Maybe the Oscar actually broke the last heater...
You can make your own out of pvc or check out google and Amazon to try and find one to fit your heater.
