Just started working with a few of these, any thoughts or experiences you have had with them? I'm also interested in talking to anyone who has dove, with them present. I will be doing that soon and would be lying if I said I wasn't slightly nervous.

assuming you work at sea world????

most of the people who post in this forum, keep freshwater rays from South America.

BTW if you do work at Sea World, I am so jealous, that is awesome.

MOVED!

Firstly, I am sorry for putting this in the wrong section. Fail.

Secondly. Legally I can't say where I work ;-P

Third. I will try and get pictures as soon as I can, they are pretty amazing.

I was told today that we are one of two places keeping them, which I didn't know. Ours have been facing a handful and a half of problems. Bacterial infections mostly. We started out with 4.4 and only have the 4 females left. From what I understand there isn't much known about keeping them. Our adult female, who is on display is hyperactive, she gets over excited and enjoys bumping and nudging divers, especially during feeding. Seems harmless enough though to divers. I was hand feeding two others today and it was pretty cool, I must say I feel alot better about getting in the water with these guys or rather gals.

I Guess if anyone is interested, I can post updates on whats going on with them.

Bowmouths are nothing to be worried about when it comes to 'danger' level by any means. I'm trying to think off the top of my head the size of the animal at that place you didn't say you worked at. ;)

I've raised small ones, and have worked with a pair of adults as well. The hardest part is getting them feeding, and keeping them from raking their rostrum into the display edges. They are very sensative compared to other elasmo species, so just be very mindful of that when working with them. Like you said bacterial infections are the main COD in captivity for them. Diet and WQ are the best ways to keep them in top shape.

There are actually several of them in the US right now. Off the top of my head, Newport Aq in KY has a male/female pair (I've got pics of them somewhere), Underwater Adventures Aq in MN has one (or HAD one, I haven't heard as of this week - sad story), Georgia Aq has at least two now (another male/female pair if I remember correctly), Longbeach Aq in CA has at least one and Adventure Aquarium (Camden Aq) in NJ has them. I know Dallas World Aq had talked about getting some at one point, but I think they went in another direction.

What other kinds of things did you want to know?
If you want more info off forum (for job reasons, feel free to shoot me a PM or email : sharksandcrocs @ live.com. I'm actually hoping to swing by Orlando on my way to RAW at Newport next week. Any of your staff going?
