There is an ad up at my LFS for a free 2 year old rhino iggy male....

The only problem is it is mean. So how hard would it be to tame him a wee bit? I have not seen it but have put serious thought into calling about it.

Depends......Chances are it was forced handled and has trust issues, or it could be the fact that not all Cyclura are people lovers......

I wouldn't mind having a few nasty Male Rhinos........That means they'll more than likely keep their Females in line........

I guess it depends on if you want a pet iguana, or a show/breeder iguana. You may have to put a lot of work into getting him just to be calm and accept you in his territory. And he may never really be handle-able depending on how he was raised.

Being as its free (because of the attitude), I'd say if you have the space and are willing to accept that it might never become "tame", then go for it.

Hmm.. Cyclura aren't mean. It's all in perspective really. What's probably going on is someone trying to handle a naturally skittish animal without giving the animal some reassurance that they're not a predator coming to eat them. I've had nice battle trying to catch up some sun-warmed Cyclura at the end of a hot day. I can still see the claw marks in my wrist a year later. These lizards don't play! If you have the space, I say go pick that bad boy up. I bet you could have it eating out of your hand within a few weeks. Most Cyclura are very food motivated, so taming/training it shouldn't be a huge problem.

I use to have green iggys that came from a animal shelter that some how ended up with them. One had a broken back so I had a cage built just for him with padded ramps, one was a huge female that was nasty at times and the third I use to take to the bar I worked at with me :-)

I know they are not the "nicest" animals out there but I do miss having a big ig to take care of.

I have a small room in the basement that might work for the time being. Probably 12 x6x8-9 ft. The room stays a little damp though. Heating would be a sinch as would building him an outside area come summer...

I think I may be making that call today after work.

Thanks guys.
