Do you think that if I covered the tank and left my 5 inch rhom in the dark for a couple of weeks, I'll still do water changes and throw some food in there, do you think he'll turn out to be a psycho.

The reason I'm asking this is because I had a RBP one time. Didn't really have time for him. He probaly got a water change every month, Got fed 2-3 times week and was left in pitch black darkness a good 23 1/2 hours out of the day for 4 months. Well one day my dad was cleaning the tank then it happed!!!!! He bit my dad on his right hand right below his index finger on the palm side. took a giant chunk out of him, you could see bone. The RBP was about 6-7 inches. My dad ended up going to hospital and then transfered to U of M for skin grafting or something like that and had to take a 6 month leave cause of that. And he didn't even kill the piranha. He just gave it away to a friend.

Well back to my original question, do you think the darkness would turn my Rhom crazy??

Keeping a serra is one of those fish that you really have to put time into before they become less skittish. Some people are lucky and they never have to deal with that...some are not. From personal experience, it can take up to a year until they come around. Thats a long time to care for a fish that you never see. Sometimes longer. Some say the key is to keep the tank bare and the fish will eventually break of his skittishness. I don't practice that. I give the fish as much comfort to come around on his own as it needs.
You could try it, with the lights, but I doubt it will help. This very subject is what turns people off of keeping Piranhas. Which is too bad.

Do you keep fighting dogs and fighting roosters too? Why would you keep an animal in darkness, starve it, etc? That is definitely not good care or husbandry.

Who said anything about starving it. I have had him in the dark now and the jumbo shrimp is gone....the large feeder goldfish gone......he's just in the dark with a little light from the heater when it comes on. He wasn't skittish at all when I first got him. But now I can kinda tell he attacks me when I lift the towels up to check on him which I do In the morning when I wake up when I get home from work and when I go to sleep. Oh and a I do a water change every 2days sometimes three.

how did you know I liked pits?????

Oh yeah I keep him in the dark too!!!!

Just because he stays in the dark doesn't mean I don't take care of him. He isn't dirty, eats very good, He even has his own scent which he wears after a bath which unforgivable by puff daddy....lol

When I first got my black piranha he wasn't skitish at all. As a matter of fact the reason i bought him was he was attacking my finger through the glass at the LFS.. Since I put him in his new home he doesn't jump ao swim away. My Rohn isn't a punk. It's just I wanted to see if anyone else tried this because it is working with mine. His getting meaner. I will post a video when it is time.

Hold on there dawg I ain't calling u'r Rhom no punk.
My dog only wear's Old Spice to bed.

lol.
Just kidding that isn't my dog...thank god.

i think it would make him more skiddish in the light when people watch

the only reason why your dad got bit is becase it was probably pissed off and skiddish so if he gets cornered or trapped hes going to bite

I Would think if you keep the fish in dark the only thing that will come
of it is one hell of a sissy fish when it sees light for you to watch the
"Psycho" go Psycho on some thing like a jumbo feeder it will not .
will it know witch way to go prolly bumping in to glass freeking out somebody
can see it vise versa .

I Say No ! You Will Get No Show Out Of This . Only a chicken shi% fish scared of light and people .

Keeping him in the dark would make him more skittish because he won't be used to people, so when you do turn on a light, he might freak out from being frightened.

Honestly, why do you even own him if you never want to enjoy seeing him? It sounds kind of cruel to me.
