Okay - so not to mention the staff being pretty rude, I had a girl bag up a pair of breeding Jewel Cichlids for me. They were labeled 2 / $10.
The owner came up to the front and inspected EVERY BAG and changed the prices on each bag. He insisted that the male Jewel (drab compared to the female) was a green terror and marked it $8.99. I contested this, and told him to go look in a book. He disappeared for 10 minutes, and came back and shook his head. I told them quite loudly to keep the fish and walked out.

That was a week or two ago. Yesterday I went back to that general area and I didn't bother going into this store. They lost a customer.
Moreover, the store is always dark, dirty, and the tanks are not cleaned regularly.
The ONLY plus is that they have some unique fish there - but I do not recommend the store based upon these criteria, in addition to NOW knowing the owner being a meathead who doesn't know his fish.
Sorry for the rant.

I cant stand when a store and its people SUCK!!! but they have a good selection!
:irked: I get tossed up between never walking in again and then getting a nice add to the tank at a good price:irked: I have a store i hate but has a good selection and its extreamly close to me. Grrrr!

I hear you Chico. I don't want to buy from my LFS but they're so close, and besides Petsmart the only other one is 30 minutes away. They also grow some illegal "crops" in the back lol.

let me guess
they were doing it hydroponically

I have a reef shop close to me that I refuse to go to anymore, and they have good stuff, the owner is an arrogant prick. said something like "customers need to buy more, and stop wasting my employees time with questions"

Questions are fine but there are alot of arrogant prick customers too. At the lfs i work at i quite often spend half an hour or sometimes even more talking crap with one customer while having to ignore others, just to have the guy say thanks heaps and walk out with out buying anything. Im happy to give loyal customers whatever help they need whenever they need it but we arent there specifically to give out free information we are there to sell stuff.
How many doctors, lawyers, builders and whatever else will give out free help. NONE.

There are a lot of crappy fish stores, as well as crappy fish customers. Many customers abuse the free water tests, free info, and fish guarantees. I hate it when they disregard your advice, dump the fish in their tanks, and they die. Then they want credit.

I also hate stores that will knowingly sell a fish, even when they know it won't work. "Yes, that 1" Pacu will be fine in your ten gallon.

Dude there are way better fish stores in MD.. Never even heard of Ricks.

One word...

DUH!

I live about 20mins from Ricks and he is cool but his staff sucks! I want to write on a aisle of tanks DO NOT BUY THESE FISH!!!!!!
