People kept telling me my rift tank had simply too many rocks so I changed it up a little bit.it has much less rock now and a few more shells.also I will note that you can actually see the fish now even though Im using the same crappy camera.

heres a pic of how it used to look, and then how it looks now. What do you guys think?Do you guys think it an upgrade from my last setup?

I prefer the new look, still provides tons of hiding spaces nut more swimming room...............Whats with the conch shell?????:) Not rift lake!!:)

I like the old better, its great either way... I mean lots of swimming space, but they are rock dwellers hints the name mbuna means rock dweller... The question is which do you like better that is what matters most... in my opinion lose a few shells keep the dark rock and have the fish be the highlights... keep it to as many as you had before...

or do whatever you want... I like them both...

While I agree that you should do whatever you like. . . the highlight of a fish tank is fish. . . hence the name FISH tank. They seem to be out a lot more in the new setup so I'd say keep it that way. The shells are a bit much though. . . JMHO

The fewer rocks makes the tank look loads better. The rocks used tend to make a tank look crowded when too many are used. I agree, remove the shells and put them into your Marine fish tank. Looks great otherwise. :naughty:  :headbang2 :nilly:

thanks guys it seems generally to be more liked with less rocks.
however for the seashells they will probably stay where they are because:

1)there are a few shells in malawi, and even more so in tanganyika, maybe not these same ones but they are there.

2)they help buffer my water back up just that much faster after a water change.

3)It (the conch shell) was my brichardi's home in their other tank and I moved it to this tank with them and they claimed it again ASAP.

4)Most people who come to my house dont know any better....many even assume its a SW tank because of the colors and the reef like appearance.

I can see that... if you have shell dwellers then of course keep them... maybe move the large shell to not make it a center piece... I mean you took out rock to make it less crowded then put a huge shell it is place... just an idea...

I get people asking if my africans are salt water too...
