i have a white top african cichlid that is holding. i put her in a 20g tank that just had plants in it. well its been about 2 weeks and the fish is doing well and still holding. but the tank has grown alot since i first put her in. there is alot of algae growing and the plants are larger and the tank looks pretty dirty. is this ok for my young white tops? the water conditions and fine and temp is at 80. is this ok? will the young fry eat the algae?

you should be better off using some kind of sponge filtration, perform several small water changes (5%), matching the parameters with the tank, use the right buffers for your cichlid in the proper amount, do use RO water when preparing the new water change, turn off the lamps (we do not want a fish being stressed by the lights), whenever you make a partial water change dont forget to warm it up one degree farenheit above in regard to the main tank, and some fry (that depends on the species) will eat algae, the best food for them is nauplii. i hope this helps.
