Switching from gravel to 'Pool Filter Sand' in a fresh water 46 gallon.
Paid $9.86 for two 50 pound bags.

Will one bag be enough?
Is this the right kind?

This is the aquarium.
And yes, I'll be raising the filter intake and putting a pre-filter on it.

What part of Florida? We are going to have a meet in a few weeks in Orlando.

Oh yeah, there was a question some where in there. 'How much' is a personal preference, but both bags will get you in business. You will need to rinse the sand really well to keep the tank from being a cloudy mess. Expect to rinse it 12-15 times.

One bag may even be a little too much. Deep sand allows toxic gas to get trapped under it, instead of dissipating gradually. I have 50 pounds in my 75 gallon, which is plenty.

I rinsed mine once; maybe it was just clean to begin with?

I'm in Jacksonville, FL.
I think I'll start with one bag and see how it looks when it's setup.
Then I'll just suck some out if it's too much or add some if needed.
I got two new 5 gallon buckets to do the rinsing and a large tupper ware container to keep the cleaned sand in.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I'll post a new thread with pics once everything is done.
