How do you take the rim off of a tank? I've tried but im too afraid to crack the tank and will i have to resilicone it.

Take TIME (and be patient) to run a razor blade under the brace multiple times (more thank 3 or 4 times), paying attention to the corners. The corners are where the braces meet so its only natural for them to part there :P. Slowly pry away, lifting the brace up slowly at the corners. DO NOT apply force to un-stick the silicone, instead, cut away at it slowly. Another tip is DO NOT attempt to get the brace off in one piece. The tension will put force on the glass and cause it to crack. After you have taken all the braces off, take the razor and scrape the silicone away (this step gets pretty tedious).

The bigger the tank, the bigger the brace, the more silicone is used, the more time it will take.

how big of a tank can you take the brace off of safely?

I dont mean to pirate

I totally cracked the hell out of my 10 gallon. Was just an experiment if I could do it without it breaking. Started off fine, but then I hear a crack so I don't give up and start on another side. Then the damn thing crack the whole side. I threw that stupid thing in the trash can and went to sleep. It was a bad day.
