Hello all, I realize that this is a question that is asked often but I cant seem to find a consistent answer. Im doing a project where Im taking two 75 gallon oceanic aquariums and I will be combining the long edges to form the tank into a ~185 gallon tank. The glass is 3/8 inches thick (9.5mm), with the top and sides braced, does this seem like thick enough glass or does it sound like a bad idea? The bracing will go up the corners and will wrap around ~2inches on each side of each corner. At the top I will have it rimmed and then Im thinking of either doing a X brace made of plywood that will span to the center of all four pieces of glass, or doing a brace that covers the entire top of the tank but has a rectangular or square hole cut out in the middle of it (kind of like euro bracing but with plywood instead of glass and one solid piece of plywood at that. I would love to get opinions as this will be my first tank build and I would hate to have it bust and flood my basements living room. The bottom will be made of 2 pieces of plywood stacked on top of each other one smaller than the other so the glass can sit on top of the one and slide up next to the other and a brace will be screwed into the base plate to hold it in place. Im going to try and use the strongest rtv108 I can find as well. (sorry for the rambling) if any questions ask away!
