Hello, I am setting up a 100 gallon in a few days, and I wan to use sand as a substrate. How do you rinse it? Also, how much would I need? The dimensions are the same as a 90 but a few inches wider.

It depends on what type of sand you're using. For the most part, I use a pillow case and rinse it with a hose.

I rised 250lbs of pool filter sand yesterday.I put I put about 15 lbs in a 5 gal bucket at a time spray with hose while swirling it around, pour off the dirty water, repeat till water comes off clear.pour the clean sand into another bucket, get another load.

Howdy,

I didn't rinse my playsand at all - my plants love the extra clay.

For calculations of the amount of sand: Measure the dimensions LxWxH of your desired substrate in decimeters, then you have liters. Sand generally weighs 2 kg/L. Easy math from here

Gomez, how long did this take you for all 250 gallons?

Doesnt your sand get blown around everywhere????
Or because its in such big tanks doesnt move around as much.
I used to have sand and my artc used to dig big holes and spray the sand everywhere.

When I use pool filter sand, I dont rinse it at all lol....
