Is this the best pump for the money for a 180 gallon overflow, system? The Sump size will be a standard 55 Gallon tank, 4' under the main 180.

The overflow has two 2 x 1" pipes flowing into the sump and 2 x 3/4" returns.

The tank is a Oceanic, with the overflows on each side corner.

What's the setup in the sump going to be (wet/dry? full wet? refugium? etc...)? What are your stocking plans? Is this going to be the only filter in the aquarium?

These are all basic questions that need answering before we can even start to answer yours. :)

For the money they are alright pumps, but I'd personally would skip it, and go for a mag drive. More water flow for less pump size, and energy.

It'll be a saltwater sump. And be the only filtration on a fish only tank. I would like to add the skimmer, heater and bioballs in it. The tank is not going to be heavily stocked, but will have some larger meat eaters, groupers and such.

Energy consumption is a concern, so if Mag runs on less wattage then thats a pretty big deal for me too.

If you compare the HF to the MD the mag drives you can get away with a smaller pump. As they age the HF will slow down faster, and I find they don't have nearly the flow compared to the MD. The new high drive Mag drive pumps are supposed to be amazing, but they are externals.
