Great post!
Amazing how much the rapids in the Orinoco, remind me of the fast flowing Mamoni and other cascading rivers here in Panama.
And the fish, fit into the same niches.
Thousands of tetras dominate, and in the fastest currents Plecos are everywhere.

Just like the geophagines S America, the geophagine like Darienheros inhabit strong flow areas here,

but Andinoacara cichlids inhabit the mostly slack water zones,

but instead of pike cichlids here in Central America, convergent evolution allows sleek predatory gobies fill that niche.
