I'm feeling a bit down as I write this. My girlfriend just sent me a text saying that my oldest Texas, Red, has passed away. I had Red since she was ~1" in length. Today she measures roughly 5". Apparently she fed them at 9 o'clock this morning. Everything was fine. Note that in this tank I had another Tex, which is about 6", and a Blood Parrot (Red's mate) measuring around 4". I guess when she returned home, Red was a floater and appeared to be pretty beat up. The bigger of the two Texas' was a new addition to the tank, but I hadn't noticed much aggression between the tank mates. I'm guessing Red was defending her territory, but didn't have enough strength to fight the new specimen off. She will be deeply missed. Here's a few photos of her in the growing process.
RIP Red.
