I read on Facebook this morning that Dr. Wayne Leibel passed away unexpectedly this weekend. Dr. Leibel was a passionate hobbyist who contributed so much as an author through books and articles, notably all of his work in TFH magazine.
Dr. Leibel’s articles on South American cichlids were of great interest to me as a teenager and I still revisit some of them now, twenty or more years later. I also had the great pleasure of corresponding with him by email over the years, sharing our excitement about new species discoveries and the joys and woes of trying to breed rare or difficult fish. He was always friendly, accessible, and a fountain of knowledge.
RIP Wayne, and thank you so much for your contributions to our great hobby. Your memory will live on thanks to all you have written and shared for us.
