17 inches, girthy SOB! roughly 4 years old

he passed after a struggle to live

in retrospect, i have learnt plenty here.

I am saddened, ashamed and .... well, devastated at his death.

I learnt after thinking back how this happened.

He was bleeding from the anus and when i took him oiut as you can see in the pic, blood is coming out of his anus.

he had severe indigestion.
As my previous post.
scales started to protrude...and game over

i treated iwth metrodinazole, epsom salt to help pass, but no luck.

in retrospect, i should have seen warning signs, he was sick 2 months ago or so, started being lethargic, floating to the surface and not moving as much.

now i know to look out foir this and treat immediately.

what i did i think was after i feed shrimp, at times i would do a 20 to 30% wc - temp drops from 28 to sometimes 23 to 24c.
i think the temp drop stoped the food digesting properly - and usually he was ok, but the sudden temp drop probqably stressed him out and inhibited digestion, and maybe the food went septic in him...thus resulting in the indigestion and eventually dropsy and death.

Lessons and remedy of my routine:
smaller and much more frequent wc on my tanks that are not rigged up to my automatic wc yet.

my auto changer never lets the temp drop more than 0.5celcius....this wont be a problem again.

none the less, that doesnt console me with this loss - but lesson learnt.

here is a pic of him - when he was in his prime growing stage - he would consume 3 to 4 whole shrimp at a time - he ate more than any aro i ever had!

Sorry about your loss..and looking at him i know how you must feel.. he was a monster arow... sad

Sorry mate!

RIP

R.I.P

at least you get to keep asian arowanas.

Damn he was a big boy!! I think you could be onto something with the temp drop with a full stomach, perhaps that combined with the hard shrimp and mealworm shell caused him to get blocked up. I've never had a problem with the temp drop but never do water changes straight after feeding.

An autopsy would have been interesting, but you're right, I don't know if I could cut up one of my fish...
