Today I came home from work to find Junior floating around the tank. No Marks, no signs of strees 4 hours prior when I left home after lunch, nothing. Animals die, it is a sad part of life. Just hits hard because he was only 3 years and 4 months old. So he was still quite young. Not sure what I will do not. I have plenty of fry so perhaps start over. Anyway, RIP buddy.

Sorry for your loss bro he was one of the nicest midas I had ever seen. Grow out his fry and start over thats what I would do.

Would you be willing to do a necropsy and look for fatty deposits around the liver?

Sorry that he passed, but I have a hunch as to what it could of been. Not even 4 is pretty young for a cichlid to just die.

sorry for the loss buddy

Yeah, I checked him out after a bit to compose myself and get out of uniform. Everything looked fine. He was a chunk, but I only fed them a small handful of pellets a day and honestly the female ate most of it. He would only eat a small bit. As I tell people feed several times a day as they down(what they can eat in 5mins) until they slow down(Males 10" females 6"). Than tapper off and only feed once what they can consume in 5-10mins. The female and fry definitely did most the eating.

I know him and the female would get a bit annoyed by fry nibbling on their slime coat. However, that normal and is easily fixed with a feeding of flakes. Thanks again man, appreciate it.

sorry for the loss buddy
thanks man.
