Nearly 2 years ago a nieghboor, saw me on the street walking my dogs asked if i would have he's fish as he was moving arcoss canada, and didn't think she would make it as she's 17 years old. soo dropped my dogs off at home, and went to check out this fish AND to my absolute horror !!!! here she is a tri-colour goldfish , probley close to 2 pounds(about 9 inches long, close to 5 inches tall and 2 inches wide) huge fish in..............a 15 gal tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok panick mode to get her out of that tank, and to my place to test water and set her up in my 20 gal till i can find something bigger for her.get everything home, ooh forgot to mention tearing a stipe of the nieghboor, and told him to never get a fishtank everagian!! he was good about it as he know, but supposively it was his sons fish, and his son hasn't been home for awhile, and found out that the fish is really as old as he said, as i didn't believe him at first! her fins are all badly scared and she is bloated . when i tested the water , my heart sank.............. every test was off my charts!!!!! and i couldn't believe she was actually still alive with those results!!!! so she spent a 4days in my 5 gal bucket, and i slowly changed 1/3 of the water twice aday with a fluval#3 ammo-carb media, and then i put her in my 20 gal for a few months, and then i moved her to my 45 octagon she's been in there for about year and was awaiting this spring when it warmed up soi could move her out to my co workers 300+ pond...............i was looking forward to it, but the last few months she's slowly not as active, and then this last 2 weeks she's been really going down hill  i know it was time :( 19 years is along life for an abused fish and i knew she was happy with me . but she couldn't make it for the pond, where she would have felt free. hopefully i can post her pics...

NEVER GIVE UP ON A FISH!!!

there was alot more you could have done

with proper care she coudl have bounced back

goldfish can live 30 plus years

19 is just there prime :D

Your story was very sad indeed. Now I'm bummed out. :(

nobody's perfect , she did bounce back and was happy. i tryed everything i thought i could do for her , the lfs owner said that she is deformed & boated as her insides are damaged from the living in a 15 gal tank for 17 years. i didn't give up on her, i knew she was sick , and i couldn't do anything about it. you can tell from blurry pics that you could have fixed her??? del gado ? A goldfish healthy ALL it's life can live 30+ years , if she was healthy all her life till she was given to me, she would have lived 30+ yrs. and had i known that my co-worker had a pond last year she would have been in it all ready , but things don't go as planned. and would she have had lived any longer.........?maybe , maybe not

ooh she is burried in my front yard, and i planted irish heath over her , and surrounded the site with rocks.

Hey at least you made her comfortable for her retirement year I am sure if goldfish had a brain bigger than 2 grains of sand she would have thanked you herself :)

gr8 story...glad you were able to make her more comfortable in the last moments of her life. <HUG>
