I had them for just over 6 months and they grew from 3.5" to just over 7. Had just gotten a tank from a friend, set it up moved them over and they died 3 days later.:(

Was the new tank cycled properly? And no I am not asking was it set up and running at your friends house because that means nothing. You just got it from a friend. That means it was drained, moved, and set back up. That also means it needed to be cycled again, maybe not a full 6-8 weeks...perhaps a week or two would have been sufficient. Since you make no reference to waiting for it to cycle I'm guessing I'm right.

Probably didn't let it recycle itself sufficiently like Izzy said... OR your water params were off being you just filled/set it up and you have no test kits.... sorry to hear that man

hey man you should never put fish into new tank with new water
try to put half of the old water back to the new tank so that your fish will be fine

To clarify, the tank was set-up, dismantled and brought here to be set up, it was half filled with water from existing tanks the rest filled with new conditioned water. Both filters on the tank were from existing set-ups and just transferred to the new tank, and ran for about a week before I put any fish in it, I guess I didn't mention that part earlier.....
