My favorite Poly died

Here he is when he was alive:

I don't exactly know what killed him. A couple weeks ago, he got a cloudy eye. Then both eyes got a little cloudy and some sort of fungus started to grow on them. I treated with salt and Melafix and raised the temp., and it cleared up. Just in the last week, he was hanging out at the top more than a Poly should and taking gulps of air. This morning he was taking as many gulps of air as possible. Then he started having trouble swimming. He really declined very quickly and before I knew it he was dead. This is the first fish I have lost in a very long time

check your water params and be careful if you have other bichirs in the tank, sorry man

Thanks all. Water parameters are fine, and I will keep a close eye on all the other fish.

I kinda suspected parasites because his stomach was a little caved in when I took him out. I just now found white stringy poop on the sand. I pray that the poop is from the Lap and not another fish.
