my parents pond got choked this summer from algae.... 
knocked out the whole population, tons of channel cats, a couple bass and a HUGE carp or two... those fish had been in there for like 8-10 years, never had any issues, even through the winters, til the past month or so. They will be missed... poor fishies... :C
