Well, I lost my Colombia Shark Cat yesterday morning
He hadn't been eating well and that's the only reason I could find for his loss. I tested my water and everything was perfect. So I took him into my lfs and the owner said he couldn't find anything wrong with him and worded it as simply "A failure to thrive"
He offered to replace the fish so now I need ideas on what catfish I want to replace him. He had one of the coolest personalities but I don't know that i want another one and take the risk. Any suggestions? Id love a cat that doesn't hide all the time, social and tame (I'd love to feed em by hand) I have two tiger oscars and a pleco.

I think Bo and Boss miss Rosco, they were sulking all day...

RIP Rosco P. Coaltrain

Thanks.
Anybody have suggestions on what to replace him with?

how big was he? i know whit a certain age they need to go to brackisd water then If i'm not mistaken full salt. sorry for the loss

He was only about 6" and I have talked to several people who have said they have seen them in full fresh water and reach their max of 12". I've heard they just need the brackish/marine for reproduction. I attempted a lot of research after I got him since my lfs had him labeled as a Bala Cat and said nothing about the brackish bit. However if he had survived I was already planning out his own large brackish/marine tank or indoor pond.
He was a very cool fish.

I think some are different then others... one of mine started to do that at about 6" and he was in full fresh. Next time I tried one at that 5-6" mark I moved him to brackish and he did fine.

Yup if you plan on having one to any real size you need to go brackish around 5-7" whenever they start lossing their appetites. I'd slowly increase their salt over time to fully brackish conditions by the time they are 6-7".

Well then that didn't do me any good as I bought him at the 5" mark... but thanks guys.
Any suggestions on a full fresh water cat to replace him? Something big enough that my Oscars won't eat?

There are a lot of nice doradids that will be large enough but don't grow into absolute monsters. Some are just gorgeous.Liosomadoras oncinus comes to mind!
