About a year ago I purchased a Ripsaw Catfish. Well I it was labeled a Turushuqui Catfish. I have seen they have many different names. I did not research as much as I should have and now know how large they will get. My Jardini Arrowana will pick on him every once and awhile which has only started a few months ago. My main question is if anyone could give me advice on how I can find this guy a new home that will suit him beter. I am not looking for negative comments about how I shouldnt have gotten it and should have researched it because I understand I should have and made a mistake. Thank you for any advice!

Depending on the size you can ask your LFSs, or you could try craigslist. If you post "free to good home" you will have better luck funidng someone with a big tank that can take them.

We have all made mistakes as fishkeepers...just learn from them and try not to repeat.

Craigslist is good. I am concerned with "Free". I have "re-homed" several pets with them and I learned that "free" attracts a lot of irresponsible people. You can offer it at a cheaper than market price and then offer to waive the fee if they prove to be responsible. I did that with two cats. Offered them at $35.00, I delivered them, saw it was a good home and waived the fee. Remember, you have the fish you control the transaction.

With respect to feeling bad about the fish, don't. There is so much bad information out there that one can't be really sure. I had an employee at one of my favorite LFS tell me that my silver arowana would get more than 8 to 10 long. Luckily in that situation I new better.

Good luck and keep us posted.

If you would like to keep it or if keeping it is still an option try a bigger tank. If not rehoming it here on mfk or on craigs is good too. I have had a ripsaw and a JZZ with my Jar and the jar only pics on the JZZ but only because the JZZ is anal himself the Jar never bothers the RS so i can work if you wana try it still maybe provide it shelter.

I had one that I donated to the Oregon Zoo about six months ago. I knew how big they grow when I got him (this one was my third Niger) but I didn't want to set up a larger tank. I actually have a couple big tanks (a 4'x4'x2' aquarium and an 8' diameter x 30" fiberglass tub) but kids have changed my priorities a bit...

He lives in a 12,000 gallon "Flooded Rainforest" now, with a bunch of donated Pacu - the person in charge of animal donations said they get several requests to donate Pacu every month that they have to turn down. They were very happy to take my big Ripsaw, however. :headbang2

Here is a photo of the fish in a 50 gallon cooler and a couple of the tank (if you can call it that) he lives in. There are actually two of these huge viewing windows, but I could only get one in the photo. My son is 3' tall for size reference. :)
