I'm looking to get a large catfish but toehead talked me out of a RTC and a TSN because of their ability to swallow other fish whole so i'm looking into an O. niger. Anyone have any first hand, long term experience?

any fish can swallow another fish whole. 
ripsaws (niger cats and irwini) are really cool cats.

theyre not very hard to keep.
easy to feed,not aggressive,hardy.
but they get big.

great catfish but the o nigers grow big and fairly fast . easily reaching 24 inches in 2 years . i have 2 nigers along with an african aro and a bunch of irwinis in a 8 foot x 4 foot tank and i feel the tank is not big enough . best for large indoor ponds
Get one. When you get tired of it, give it to me. It will look great in my tank with black sand and black back
They look like vacuum cleaners with fins when they eat. They are pretty efficient at getting all the extra food off the floor of the tank....
