ohai guys, just want to share something about this product...recently (not so very recent actually) i got this Zhongshan Risheng Electrical external filter model RS-95

i got if for free after purchased this used unit of 41/2 foot x 2 foot tank

not to talk about the tank, but the tank itself designed to have a sump tank filtration system, but however, the previous owner didn't use the sump tank, he was using this RS-95 external filter

initially, i had a thought to use sump tank as my filtration system, but after couple weeks of trying and playing with the silicone, i was failed to make the whole for water in flow to work..it's still leaking, and i knew i am noob at this point so i decided to use the canister filter that came together with purchasing

here is the failure hole

before stick it, this thing is the one made the leaking point

so i reset up the canister filter

ok, at this point, i realized, not to say it is hard, but it was tricky to use the canister,so i did open the canister, clean all the media filters and reinstall it back....imagine this, i end up in every four hours, and checking my canister and i can see i got a new pool that can grow small size arowana inside it (see the transparent box in the picture)..what the heck, i thought i already installed my canister properly but nope it wasn't as i thought...it was leaking...really bad..and i had google around to see whether got any solution of this leaking problem, and looks like most of canister user having the same problem, leaking canister because of the O-shape ring

so after a few attempt to fix it,playing with the O-shape ring position, its still leaking, until my last effort send it to the local fish shop, they have a look on it and say there is nothing wrong dear, maybe you don't install it properly...

i am mumbling to my self and get frustrated...i hope to see my filtration system working fine as i wanted to move my arowana urgently.....then i was thinking to get 3foot long media filter box,it is a top filter...and that is my plan B

just before i confirmed my purchasing with the seller, i tried again to unplug and reinstall back my canister filter and wow...just happen, it's not leaking!...so i am very happy at that time, i let the tank to ran on a test run for the whole day, even i got my knife fish during the test run..and i got a new tube for it

ok enough about that, so this is the simple review

RS-95 canister filter is using 3 media types for it filtration system and it was

1-2 layers of double hard sponge
2-a layer of bio ring
3-a layer of volcano rock

maxflow at 1100L/H, power 35W, size 290x290x503

and this RS-95 came with UV light to kill living bacterias in the water (it prevent the water become smelly very well)..it handle the water very well, the intake flow quiet strong, and the out flow doing really well, not to very strong current..easy to start to canister and easy to hold the water

just for a noob like me, i am a bit disappointing with the manufacture webpage..which is they don't have any products manual, or product guide for their product...and i got this RS-95 canister filter without any box and kinda difficult to know how's the filter working at the beginning...and of course it's getting worse after my RS-95 started to leak..even i am looking at fluval canister manual to see how fluval handle any leaking error

http://www.rs-aqua.com/en/introduce.html

so my question is, about this canister

1-normally people do clean their canister for how long after it run (1 week?2weeks or more?

2-for 41/2x2ft tank, if using canister filtration, how long the time period to make 30% water change? (a week? 2 week or more?)my current setup is, 1 yellow tail arowana about 9 inch, with 1 knife fish about 4 inch, 2 tinfoils around 5 inch each

3-i got a trauma to clean my canister afterward, because i am afraid the leaking problem will come again...perhaps there is any advise for noob to handle canister filter properly?

yea...some lots of companies on the mainland are not transparent.
try investing into european, american items.

that is true man....however to find america's items is quite difficult in my region and some more it's expensive...that's why my local fish shop, most of them imported aquarium products from China which is duplicating and the quality u can't complaint, but still, it was cheap enough...just they don't provide any guide line thru the webpage is kinda not good enough

Where is it leaking from ?
Try covering the O ring and the o rings around the taps with Vaseline these CFD series filters often have sticky o-rings that need a bit of lubricant

the leaking came from all the area between the container and the head itself, even after i locked it...but i do notice that the O-ring rubber must be fit really really fit and i just need some extra force when locking it

so about the Vaseline, could i just use the normal vaseline that we use for our hand?

thanks mate, going to put some vaseline on that rubber for the next cleaning process

If you want to use a sump you need to install a bulk head on the tank (your 2nd picture). Your local fish store should have them or be able to get them; or a plumbing supply store.
