I just got back from fishing a river called "Alafia River".
Didnt really catch anything exiting, but I did see something cool. The WATER in the river was glowing everytime it was disturbed. Our prop was glowing, the top ove waves were glowing, we saw an entire school or baitfish being chased by something much bigger, and even the fish we pulled out the water made it glow. The neatest thing is that I scooped some up in a water bottle and when we got back I went into the garage closed the door and the water almost illuminated the room!
It seems that the name "alafia" means "river of fire" and its caused by unusually high phosphates in it. I really couldnt find out anything more. I wish i could get a picture but camera was out of batteries.
I thought it was pollution, but seems like the river has always done that cause it got its name from native americans.
Anyone have any info on this, or anyone ever seen it before? Know anywhere else this happenes?
