hey guys i have a quick question i live in ca right by azuza mountains i was thinking about going out there and getting a few rocks from the mountains and the river would they be okay to put in my fish tank do ihave to boil the rocks first in a pot or just wash them really good .my fish are cichlids in a 135 gal

I used some rocks that I collected from a creek near my home,I must have about 100 pounds of it but I no longer use them. The ones you are talking about could be safe and soaking or boiling wouldnt hurt it depends on which type they are.I used some white rocks once and they clouded up the water.

I think you used limestone...

lol at least it added calcium to the water

I really dont think it would hurt anything, unless the rocks are a pourus material, most creek rocks are very dense and wont absorb anything. Are there fish in these waters ? Are they healthy ? Does that answer your question?

It could have been,I changed all of the water and there was a film on the glass.

Just make you thoroughly clean the rocks and let dry in sun for day or two. I use driftwood and rocks from local river. One time I got impatient and only rinsed driftwood and saw several lil things swimming in water. Fish must of ate them but a week or two later there was a big nyphm that hatched at top of water level. DOn't know what is was but glad it didn't kill anything.
