Hi All,

Seeing as my question in the SA Cichlid area has fallen of deaf ears and knowing how handy the regular Characin guys are i figured I'd ask here!

With the big black seemingly settling nicely in the main tank, I have a small tank set up and all but empty that i set up as an emergency holding tank in the event the black didn't settle. I strongly emphasise the emergency part..!

So, with it being empty for a little while, I decided to scape it as follows-

pics taken jsut after it was set up so the fogginess has since cleared. i've also added a few small occupants;

So the question is, what Characins would suit this style of tank, that are not unrealistic in their availability. If i could find Charax Gibbosus I would certainly try for a small shoal but no such luck, so what else could I try? Dimensions are 48"x12"x15".

I desperately didn't want to just put any old tetra in there and have toyed with an Ery but he'd probably chop the little oto's and I fancied a midwater shoaling fish... Oh and it has to be SA. :nilly:

Any help is appreciated.

What are the actual dimensions?

I am toying with the idea of getting a large number of Exo's for a similer sort of setup. Another idea might me the smaller FW cuda species, Can't remember the name off the top of my head.

What about a nice Tetra species with a couple of dwarf Crenicichla.

Not a big fan of Exo's- angry little SOB's...

I did think of Cuda's but can only find big ones which isn't ideal. And the Tetra Crencichla idea; well that my back up. Big shoal of rummynose and some crenicichla notophthalmus as i know i can get those without any difficulty. Probably throw some unusual small L numbers in the mix too as i know they love fast water.

I have a few colombian tetra's in one tank,great tetra and coloration is stunning under subjewed lighting with duckweed floating on surface, also i have some odessa barb in another tank<different i know but coloration again is stunning,

Well i think i've decided on the first adition to the smaller tank; my Lismodoras Oncinus. I'm not sure if it is a case of terrible eye sight or sheer bravery but the little chap has a suicidal tendancy to swim around the new wolf. With him being just 6-7" he is looking a good snack candidate and knowing these fellas have mean spines, that could be a very very bad thing...
