RO and Pikes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't use strait RO/DI, it lacks nutrients. But using 1/2 and 1/2 would be of great benefit for wild caught specimens. Straight R/O has no buffering ability, hence a mix of tap with it.

Actually, you'll need to use some electro-right or cut it, as mentioned above. Trace elements are simply that, and contain no kH to maintain your pH. 100% RO water is unable to sustain life for any amount of time.

I do not keep pikes, but I use RO water in my Central American tank, and I like it. Its much clearer. I use RO Right by Kent to replace trace elements. My pH never changes from 7.0.

What kind of Ro system do you have?

Its made by Aqua-Pure, the model # is APRO 5500.

Our family uses it for drinking water also. I collect water in small amounts throughout the week and do my water changes at the end of the week.

We also have another unit, but I couldnt find a company or model # on it.

It can be a pain if your gonna do straight RO water. I have a 35gpd four stage RO unit that I need to hook up. I need some new filters for it as well. Anywho, I had a 50gal trash bin that I filled up twice a week. It took quite some time to fill up, and I couldn't do water changes until it was ready. It frustrated me having to wait to do water changes, I like being able to do them whenever I need to/want to. I still didn't go 100% RO water though...not even 50/50. If you are gonna do RO, get one that at least does 30 or more GPD, other wise you will be waiting for quite some time...haha.
